How Does Invisalign Work?

The first step of the Invisalign treatment process is to have your teeth examined by Dr. Heesch, our trained orthodontic specialist. We’ll capture images of your mouth and conduct a visual examination to determine whether Invisalign treatment is the best option for you.

Once you decide you’d like to move ahead with the Invisalign process, we’ll develop a customized treatment plan and capture impressions of your teeth to create a model that we’ll send to our Invisalign laboratory. There, they’ll make your aligners from smooth, discreet, FDA-approved plastic. Each set of aligners is meant to fit differently, so as you advance through your treatment, your teeth will continue moving into their ideal positions.

When your trays arrive, we’ll show you how to clean them and how to put them in your mouth. You’ll need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day, only taking them out of your mouth when you’re eating, drinking anything besides water, or brushing and flossing your teeth. Every six to eight weeks, you’ll visit our office for a quick checkup so that we can give you your next series of aligners.

What Problems Can Invisalign Fix?

Many patients are unaware of the versatility of Invisalign. Your aligners will provide both cosmetic and health benefits and can fix a variety of orthodontic issues, including some of the following:

Bite Misalignment

When your bite isn’t aligned, it can cause a variety of issues, including digestion problems, jaw pain, and oral health issues. Invisalign aligners can adjust mild to moderate overbite, underbite, and crossbite to improve your oral and overall health.

Crowded Teeth

Teeth that are bunched together can make you feel embarrassed about your smile. They can also increase your risk of plaque and tartar accumulation. Invisalign trays can act to gently shift crowded teeth into their ideal, side-by-side positions.

Gaps Between Teeth

If your teeth are unevenly spaced, it can make you feel like part of your smile is missing. Invisalign aligners can close gaps between your teeth to create a completed arch of teeth and reduce your risk of plaque buildup.

Invisalign FAQs

Clear aligners are the ideal solution to achieve a beautiful smile without the unsightly appearance of brackets and wires. We know you’re excited to get started with Invisalign; however, we also know you have a few concerns before you’re ready to commit to it. We’ll take the time to explain your treatment process during your initial consultation. In the meantime, here are the answers to a few of the most common questions patients ask us to help ease any apprehensions.

Can my teen benefit from Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great option for teens who don’t want any added attention drawn to their smiles while undergoing orthodontic treatment. Although every case is different, many teens can choose clear aligners over traditional braces. We’ll perform a thorough consultation to ensure it’s the right option for your child.

How much does Invisalign cost?

There isn’t a set fee for Invisalign because the price is based on several factors, like the severity of your alignment needs. We’ll provide you with a custom estimate during your consultation and discuss your payment options.

Can I use my dental insurance for Invisalign?

Every policy is unique; however, many dental insurances offer some coverage for Invisalign. A member of our team will work with your insurance provider to file the necessary claim forms to lower your out-of-pocket expenses. We’ll explain how your benefits are being used and discuss your remaining balance.

We accept several payment methods, including third-party financing with CareCredit. You’re given the funds you need, which you’ll repay using a plan that accommodates your budget. We will help you find the solutions you need to achieve your dream smile without draining your wallet.

How many Invisalign aligners will I need?

We don’t use cookie-cutter treatment plans. The number of aligners needed is determined by your orthodontic issues. Generally, people who have more complex problems require more aligners than a person who only needs to make minor adjustments. We’ll explain how many aligners you’ll need during your initial consultation, and how long your treatment is expected to last.

Will I need a retainer after Invisalign?

After finishing your series of aligners, you will need a retainer. This provides your teeth with the support they need to prevent them from drifting back into their previous positions to protect your investment. There are many discreet solutions to meet your needs and your preferences.

What happens if an Invisalign aligner breaks?

Your aligners are made of durable material, but they aren’t indestructible. If an aligner breaks or fractures, it’s best to contact our office right away. We’ll instruct you on what to do next to ensure there aren’t any unnecessary delays in your treatment plan.

Can I still eat what I like with Invisalign?

Many patients prefer Invisalign because there aren’t any dietary restrictions. You can still enjoy your favorite foods but don’t eat or drink anything while wearing them. Store your aligners in their carry case until you’ve finished. Be sure to brush your teeth and rinse your aligners before putting them back into your mouth.
